After completing 45 matches in the league stages, it's time for the knockout matches. Like last season in 2019, there are no semi-finalists for this season as well. We are directly playing semi-final matches. I would say the earlier formats used to be more exciting than this round-robin setup when we get a chance to watch at least one more round of knockouts.
In the first semi-final of the 2023 cricket World Cup New Zealand team will be playing against India at one of the popular venues of cricket, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. This is the second consecutive time the Indian team is all set to play the semi-final against New Zealand in the 50-over World Cup. In 2019 it was New Zealand who emerged as winners with a small margin. India was playing great cricket during the 2019 World Cup and lost a game with just 30 minutes of bad cricket. India always had that problem in important knock-out matches where they used to fall apart at any of the departments. Starting from the 2014 T20 World Cup final, they qualified for most of the knock-out matches other than the 2021 T20 World Cup and knocked-out without without any important trophy.
So it is going to be an interesting game where New Zealand will come hard at the Indian team. If they make that passage of the game with double strikes or triple strikes, it is going to be interesting. We saw that happening in the league stage as well against Australia and England even though the Indian team emerged as winners in both cases.
New Zealand also struggling to grab an ICC trophy. They were finalists in 3 of the last ICC tournaments and also played in the semi-finals of the last four World Cups. But their struggle continues to grab a trophy.
India won the toss and elected to bat.
